We all experience personal challenges or issues in our lives. We can deal with these times by talking to friends or family, or trying to deal with things ourselves.
There are times, however, when issues are too much for us to manage on our own, or cannot be resolved by support from our friends or family. At such times, seeking support and strategies from a Psychologist can be helpful.

MPS Psychologists are trained, objective professionals with whom you can build a healing and trusting relationship.
We are trained to offer different types of assistance; most frequently talking-based styles of therapy and our team will suggest a range of counselling format options to best assist you.
We work therapeutically with:
Children/teens in primary and secondary school
Adults of all ages
Couples
Group therapy programs – up to 8 people per group
Our Psychologists may work in partnership with a medical doctor or other health professional at times to give comprehensive and integrated care.
There are many different types of evidence-based interventions and approaches that our Psychologists use that work with your presenting issues.
Sessions generally are scheduled for 50-60 minutes, short appointments are 30 minutes and longer appointments occur when detailed psychological assessments are required or extended consultations are requested.
We offer appointments Monday to Friday.
Most appointments occur at our practice sites however MPS psychologists have the capacity to work offsite on occasions that warrant attendance, and we also routinely offer telehealth (phone and video) options for your convenience.
Whilst a referral isn’t required, people generally attend counselling under a one of the following Medicare or employer funded arrangements:
Medicare referral from a GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician referral which allows for rebates which can be claimed 'on the spot' electronically. Doctors can refer under Medicare for the following schemes:
Mental Health Treatment Plans, Enhanced Primary Care/Chronic Disease Management Plans, Department of Veterans Affairs, Pregnancy Support Counselling, Children with autism, pervasive developmental disorder or disability and Allied Health Services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who have had a Health Assessment
Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) offer workers and their immediate family members short term counselling.
Our team are registered providers for many Employer’s schemes, ask our receptionist or your HR area if your employer has a EAP with us.
For those not attending under a doctor’s referral or via an arranged employment scheme you can attend MPS without a referral and self-fund your therapy:
Private health funds can be utilised for therapy and assessments. Most funds’ rebates can be claimed on the spot via HICAPS. As benefits vary from fund to fund we suggest you contact your insurer to determine your eligibly and benefit payable.
Private patients are welcome to attend for counselling and assessments, payment can be made by Cash or Credit Card at the time of your appointment.
