Forensic
MPS offers services to individuals, groups, state and federal government organisations where there is a need for psychology to interface with the legal and justice systems.
Our team have experience working within statutory Government organisations in a legal, corrections and law enforcement context and have a wealth of knowledge in supporting, assessing and training all officers who work in these high-risk occupations.
Our Forensically trained Psychologists are scientist-practitioners, they apply psychological knowledge, theory and skills to the understanding and functioning of legal and criminal justice systems.
We are skilled in grounding our expertise and opinion in relevant literature and research, synthesising with data obtained through investigative interviews, psychometric assessment, consultation with collateral sources and file reviews to provide probative opinion to decision makers in courts and tribunals.
We are experienced in understanding the needs of individual courts (e.g., Civil, Criminal, Family, Coroner and others) and tribunals (e.g., Compensation Board, Guardianship Board, Parole Boards, State Administrative Tribunals) and the role and responsibility of psychological expertise within their proceedings: providing expert psychological evidence in the form of written report or oral evidence; consultation to areas of the legal and justice system including trial process and preparation, impact of court proceedings on witnesses, jurors, and other participants; mediation; police investigations; crime prevention; correctional services; workplace safety; child protection and victim’s needs.
Similarly, we have a nuanced understanding of the role of clinical services within forensic populations and setting, which can further inform the treatment recommendations of participants in these settings.
